ABS 3D printingHeat-resistant engineering plastic for functional parts
ABS is the plastic used in car interiors, appliance housings and LEGO bricks. It handles much higher temperatures than PLA, is tough and machinable, and can be vapour-smoothed for a glossy finish.
Best for
Automotive interior and under-dash parts
Housings for appliances and electronics
Jigs and fixtures near heat sources
Parts you plan to drill, tap or glue
Functional prototypes of injection-moulded ABS parts
Not ideal for
Long-term outdoor use in direct sun (ASA is coming soon)
Very large flat parts, which can warp (we'll advise if this applies)
Tips for ordering in ABS
Choose ABS over PLA when a part will sit in a car, near a motor or in a hot room.
Mention acetone smoothing in your order notes if you want a glossy finish.
